I upgraded to the new iPhone 7 Plus phone…and here’s what I think!

    Lots of new features!

    Disclaimer

Okay guys – I’ve been waiting to share this iPhone 7 review with you all. No, I didn’t receive this as compensation, and yes, all of these opinions are 100% my own. Heads up, I used to own an iPhone 6 Plus, so I may be doing some comparison with that.

Since meeting my husband back in 2011, I’ve grown rather fond of Apple products. Once the latest gadget was out, my husband was right there waiting to get the upgrade for the both of us. We own several of them, including the phone, iPad, iMac, iMac Mini, and we can’t forget those watches. After watching the Apple Keynote Event, and new iPhone 7 came out, he and I just had to grab a couple for ourselves.

The new features of the iPhone 7 include the following:

    • Water resistant
    • Dust resistant
    • Two speaker grills on the bottom
    • More processing power -The A10 Fusion is a 64-bit quad-core processor that is 40% quicker than the A9 in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
    • No headphone jack (you’ll need a lightning converter or bluetooth earbuds, which are included with your phone)
    • Haptic feedback (vibration) – the home button is flat (not a physical button)
    • Dual cameras on iPhone 7 Plus – 12 megapixel for the forward facing, and 7 megapixel for the selfie
    • Better battery life

There are other features, I’m sure. However, these were the big ones for myself.

Dual Cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus

The biggest reason for me getting the new iPhone 7 Plus was the dual cameras and zoom option. I am a blogger…. mommy blogger, coupon blogger, whatever name you want to deem me as. Often times, I can’t take my Canon Rebel camera with me to certain places, such as grocery stores. I mean, I suppose I could, but it may look a bit weird to the associates and other shoppers. I need a great-quality camera that is easily accessible and is available for me to take a quick photo when I need it. The majority of them end up on my blog somewhere (and I gotta keep my blog looking nice). When I need to take a picture of a product on the shelf, I whip out my iPhone 7 Plus easily. The optical image stability, wide color capture, and wide angle lens allow my pictures to come out nice and clear.

This past Sunday, I took pictures of each of my children outside our church building. I ended up taking multiple pictures of each child to make sure I got the one that I wanted. I was floored to see how great almost every picture turned out. Each different color from the photos popped out sharply. Each child stood out in the photo, while the background set to blur. Lighting was a huge factor in these pictures. It was a very bright, sunny day when I took these photos. Poor lighting photos don’t necessarily turn out as well, but that’s to be expected.

    Headphone jack is long gone!

Awww nuts! You can’t listen to music on headphones and charge your phone at the same time anymore. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, considering that Apple thought of a way to fix the problem. When you receive your box, you’ll receive a lightning converter and bluetooth earbuds. I personally wasn’t a huge fan of the Apple earbuds anyways, since I prefer over the ears headphones. AND…I normally use wireless bluetooth headphones.

The biggest issue with this for me is that I often listen to music or audio books in my van. I have a AUX adapter sitting comfortably around my radio that I plugged my iPhone 6 Plus into. Also, I would charge my phone, along with listening to music. I can’t do that now. I’m grateful for the lightning converter, so I can still continue listening to my favorite music while driving – but now I have to choose. Pretty bummer situation. Our Harry Potter audiobook family drive time may have to wait if mommy doesn’t have her phone charged first.

With all that said, if you have a bluetooth speaker, you can connect it to your iPhone and listen to music wirelessly while you charge your phone that way. I’ve tried it on mine, and it worked like a charm.

    Holy high-prices, Batman!

Another issue is the price – on the upwards of over $800 for the 256 GB! I’m sure you may find a way to get it cheaper with eBay or other reseller websites. Don’t expect it to be too much cheaper, though. I’m sure if you have a phone plan with a high-end company, you can make monthly payments (add them onto your phone plan), but the price will pretty much be the same.

    So the upsides:

    • Great dual camera – takes amazing pictures on the go!
    • Faster processor
    • More GB options (I got the 256 GB)
    • Still has the Rose Gold phone option – may not be a big deal to you, but I love it!
    • It’s still similar to the iPhone 6 – screen size, fingerprint indication
    • It’s waterproof!! Yay!!! I have not tested this feature. I will take their word for it, though.

    So the downsides:

    • It’s pretty darn expensive
    • iPhone 7 Plus has more features than the iPhone 7
    • Relying on lightning converter instead of a headphone jack
